Sight — the simple letter governing the sense of vision: the capacity to perceive, survey, and orient within the field of what exists.
Correspondences
The Letter Form
Heh is a Dalet with a descending stroke that doesn't quite reach the floor — a gap between the vertical leg and the bottom. The window. A frame with an opening at the bottom, a deliberate incompletion. Where Dalet is the door (you pass through), Heh is the window (you see through). The Emperor surveys his empire through Heh — the strategic vision that maps territory, identifies threat, and projects order outward.
In the Sefer Yetzirah
Heh belongs to the twelve Simple Letters, each attributed to one of the twelve zodiac signs and governing one of the twelve simple faculties (senses, attributes). Heh governs Sight. Aries is the first sign — the spring equinox, the ram that charges forward into the new year. The Emperor (Aries) is the archetype of structured force and sovereignty. His vision is strategic: he sees what needs ordering and he orders it.
Meditative Use
Heh governs the sense of sight, and its meditation is about the quality of looking. The Emperor's vice is seeing as a conqueror: surveying the world as territory. But the window can also be gazed through with wonder. Practice looking at something — a tree, a face, a night sky — without naming what you see. Hold the raw visual experience before it becomes a category. That pre-naming gaze is Heh at its most direct.
