The Letter Form
Bet is a three-sided enclosure — open on the left. It is, literally, a house: walls, floor, ceiling, but a door facing toward what came before. The letter contains and shelters (the internal space) while remaining open to the previous reality. Bet is the first letter of the Torah (Bereishit — 'In the beginning'), and its shape communicates why: creation is a house that consciousness moves into. The interior is where all becomes possible.
In the Sefer Yetzirah
In the Sefer Yetzirah, Bet is the first of the seven Double Letters, each bearing a dual nature — a 'hard' face and a 'soft' face, blessing and curse. Bet governs Life and Death. Mercury's nature is famously dual: the planet is at home in Gemini and Virgo, exalted in Virgo. Mercury rules communication, intelligence, and transition — the living breath (speech) and the final rite of passage (psychopomp). Bet holds both.
The Mercurial Interior
Bet should not be read as a flat planetary label. The letter houses Mercury's full interior: Tiriel is the intelligence that gives speech inner order, and Taphthartharath is the spirit that pushes that order outward into exchange, rhetoric, and operative signal. The house is therefore not only a container. It is the chamber in which articulation is refined before it enters the world.
Read structurally, Mercury is the visible sphere, Tiriel is its inward syntax, and Taphthartharath is its outgoing motion. Path 12 and The Magician stage the same chain symbolically: the mind receives, orders, and then directs force without confusion.
Meditative Use
Stand in any room and feel the walls. Then feel the walls from the inside. Bet is the awareness of interior space — of being held within a container. The intelligence of Bet asks: what are you a house for? What does your mind shelter? The Magician at his table has arranged his tools; he stands in the house of intention, every instrument in its proper place.

בReturn Routes Across the Sister Hubs
Bet is not only the house-letter within the Hebrew Letters; it is one of the archive's mercurial corridors, where the same Kabbalistic body becomes legible through the Paths, the Sephiroth, and the Major Arcana. Return through those sister hubs so Bet reads not as an isolated Mercurial glyph but as the Magician-corridor where Chokmah's issuing spark is gathered into Binah's first intelligible vessel.
